The FORUM OF YOUNG EUROPEAN PLAYWRIGHTS offers the opportunity to work in an English or German speaking workshop during the festival from 17th of June to 27th of June 2010, to attend the invited productions, to exchange ideas and experiences and to participate in discussions with 20 young authors from all over Europe. In the past years the workshops were led by the playwrights Biljana Srbljanovic, Thomas Jonigk, Bernhard Studlar, Mark Ravenhill and Theresia Walser.
For 2010 Mark Ravenhill confirmed his commitment again. Martin Heckmanns will lead the German speaking workshop. The results of the workshops will be presented to the public within the festival´s program. The participating playwrights should have already written at least one play, which has been staged or been performed in a reading. They shouldn´t be over 35 years old. Travel costs, simple accommodation in double rooms, tickets for festival’s performances, per diems and fees will be granted to the participants.
The deadline for applications was 28 th of February 2010. 99 authors from 34 countries applied for the FORUM OF YOUNG EUROPEAN PLAYWRIGHTS.
Playwrights 2010
Pavlo Arie, born in 1975, lives in Lwiw (Ukraine) and in Cologne as a dramatist, author of novels, translator, concept- and performance-artist.
Henriette Dushe lives and works as a freelance dramaturge and author in Berlin. Her play „Menschen bei der Arbeit“ won the Retzhofer Literaturpreis and premiered at the Schauspiel Chemnitz in March 2010.
Lukáš Brutovský lives in Poprad, Slovakia. He writes plays and studies theatre directing.
Davide Carnevali, born in Milan in 1981, lives in Berlin and Barcelona where he studies theatre studies. He works as an author, translator for Catalan and Spanish, critic, and editor at the Ubulibri publishing house.
Marijana Ćosić is a senior student of Dramaturgy at the University of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. Besides her profession as a playwright, she is a photographer, translator of Dutch and does volunteer work.
Mikhail Durnenkov lives in Moscow and writes plays. A number of them were staged at such theatres as the Moscow Art Theatre, the Alexandrinsky Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company etc.
Charalampos Giannou was born in Cyprus and is currently living in Athens. He has written four long plays, a short one and translated several movie scripts from English.
Sandra Gugic lives, writes and works (also a graphic designer) in Vienna. Currently, she is studying Language Art at the University of Applied Arts.
Segor Hadžagić, born 25th July 1981 in Sarajevo, works as freelance film director, playwright, film and theatre critic and journalist.
Fjolla Hoxha is a dramaturge and a theater critic from Prishtina. Currently, she is writing a book about the feminist aspect of the contemporary Turkish plays.
Lucy Kirkwood is a playwright. She lives in London. Recent productions include “it felt empty when the heart went at first but it is alright now” and “Hedda”, a modern version of “Hedda Gabler”.
Dennis Kubek is a filmmaker and lives in Mainz where he is just finishing his studies in Time-based Media at the academy. His final project was the staging of a medial play.
Anne Lepper lives in Aachen and in Biel where she studies at the Swiss Literature Institute.
Katerina Momeva lives in Skopje. At the moment, she is working as a dramaturge at the Theatre of Kumanovo. Soon, her new drama “Kalesh Anga, definitely” will be staged at the Theatre of Bitola.
Milena Oda lives in Berlin and writes prose, plays and poetry. In 2007, she was nominated for the Ingeborg-Bachmann-Preis. In 2009 her play “Mehr als Meer” was published in Alexandria/Egypt in German and Arabic.
Dominic Oley, born in 1980 in Hilden, lives, loves, writes, plays, thinks in Vienna.
Paul Riemann is a student of cultural studies in Hildesheim, writes, directs and acts for and on stage and organizes the movie program of a cultural association.
Heiđar Sumarliđason is an Icelandic playwright and director. His professional theatre debut as a writer came last year when the Borgarleikhúsið in Reykjavik produced his play “Rautt brennur fyrir” (“Pieces”).
Helena Tornero lives in Barcelona. She writes (theatre plays, mainly). She also teaches in a few drama schools, translates theatre plays into Catalan and Spanish, and works occasionally as a stage director’s assistant.
Saara Turunen is a playwright and theatre director. Her latest play "Puputyttö" has been translated into six languages and performed in several countries. Turunen is known for her straightforward and edgy style.
Nelly Winterhalder (* 1979) lives in Oslo and works as a dramaturge, actress, director and translator. Her play “einen spaß hat die frau“ was nominated for the Retzhofer Literaturpreis 2009.
